Traineeships
What is a Traineeship?
Traineeships have been designed to encourage businesses to employ new staff and upgrade the skills of existing employees. William Angliss Institute of TAFE is offering enrolment of trainees into the nationally recognised programs.
The major benefit to you as a trainee is that you will develop the skills to be an asset to your employer as well as gain a nationally recognised qualification. The tourism traineeships are designed for people working in travel sales. This could be within a travel agency, airline, wholesale company, cruise line, tour company or car rental organisation.
Joanne Langdon
International Travel Consultant Harvey World Travel - Sunbury
Course: Angliss Travel – Certificate III in Tourism (Retail Travel Sales) Traineeship
Joanne wanted a job that she would enjoy. “I love travelling myself, so to work doing something I enjoy and have a passion for is very rewarding”. What she likes most about working for Harvey World Travel is the excitement of helping people plan their holidays.
Joanne says that the knowledge required to be a successful travel agent is immense. “The training I received from Angliss Travel was relevant to my day to day activities. A lot of the training is done in my workplace which meant it didn’t interrupt my work”.
So how would Joanne summarise her new career? “I love what I’m doing now! If you have a passion for travel and are committed to learning, you will love this job”.
Lauren Robertson

Course: Angliss Travel – Certificate III in Tourism (Retail Travel Sales) Traineeship
After a wonderful holiday in Thailand Lauren decided that she would like a career in Tourism. A traineeship opportunity became available at the Collingwood Football Club “Pie in the Sky” (Jetset) travel agency and she took it!
Lauren is now involved in selling travel to individual holiday makers, corporate clients and organising groups. But the coolest thing about her job - “booking for famous people”.
When asked what she enjoys most about her traineeship “Learning new things and meeting fantastic people. Everyday I use the information my trainer has taught me, like Galileo, destination and fares knowledge.”
Finally does Lauren have any advice for people wanting to get into this field? “Definitely, do it! It is a great, rewarding career and a fantastic way to learn while working”.
