What is a traineeship?

•  A traineeship is a work based training program for employees that combines flexible on and off the job training.

What are the benefits in you undertaking a traineeship?

•  You obtain a nationally recognised qualification in Certificate II or III and gain accreditation towards further studies.

•  You gain greater access to job opportunities and job security

•  Your chances for promotion can improve, as you work you will have a better understanding and appreciation of the industry you work in.

Am I eligible to become a trainee?

•  To be eligible you must be in either part time or full time employment

•  Traineeships are available to people aged 14 years and 9 months - there is no upper age limit.

•  You must be an Australian citizen or hold permanent residency status

•  To undertake Certificate II or III you must be employed for an average of 13 hours per week part time, or on a full time basis.  

How long does a traineeship take?

•  The length of a traineeship can run over a minimum period of 12 months or up to a maximum of 48 months duration.

What are my employer's responsibilities?

•  Your employer must provide you with time off to attend training when required.

•  They must pay you to attend training

•  It is recommended that as a trainee you are paid according to the award you are employed under.

•  Please contact you Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC) for a full list of employer responsibilities.

Who trains me and how often?

•  Contact visits will be conducted by a William Angliss Institute Workplace Assessor/Trainer every 6-8 weeks for Metro areas. and quaterly for regional areas.

•  Trainees are also provided with one-on-one time with the Workplace Assessors/Trainer during each of these visits

When can I start?

•  You can begin the traineeship program at anytime throughout the year, by simply contacting the Institute on the numbers provided in the contact pages.

What if a traineeship is not for me?

•  Your traineeship can be cancelled at any time if there is a mutual agreement between all the parties and this should be arranged through your manager, the AAC and the William Angliss Institute Workplace Assessor/Trainer.

•  If you are resigning you should cancel your traineeship prior to leaving your employment.

Fees?

Enrolment fees for new trainees of between $350 - $1100 depending on your residential state, and $2900 per existing* trainee are payable to William Angliss Institute to cover training materials and the administration cost of enrolment. For full payment details please contact your Client Management/Program Coordinator for a Fees Agreement.

Which staff members are eligible to become trainees?

•  Staff that are employed either part-time or full-time

•  Traineeships are available to people aged over 14 years and 9 months and there is no upper age limit

•  There are no formal entry-level requirements but your trainee must be an Australian Citizen or hold permanent residency status

What is the difference between a NEW and EXISTING Trainee?

•  A NEW trainee is an employee who has been working for less than 3 months full-time or 12 months part-time and an EXISTING Trainee is an employee who has been working for more than 3 months full-time or more than 12 months part-time

What courses can be undertaken as trainees with William Angliss Institute?

•  Certificate III in Tourism (wholesale) Comprises 19 units in total made up of 15 core units and 4 elective units

•  Certificate III in Tourism (Retail Travel Sales) Comprises 22 units in total made up of 16 core units and 6 elective units

What are my responsibilities as the employer of trainees ?

•  You must provide time for your staff to attend training when required

•  Employers should also pay trainees for attending training

•  It is recommended that all trainees are paid according to the award that they are employed under

•  A traineeship can commence at anytime throughout the year by simply contacting the Institute on the numbers provided below.

What happens if a trainee resigns ?

•  Your staff's traineeship can be cancelled at any time if there is a mutual agreement between all the parties and should be arranged through yourself, the AAC and the William Angliss Institute Workplace Assessor/Trainer

•  You should cancel your staff's traineeship prior to them leaving your employment

Are there any financial incentives offered to employers ?

•  In some cases the Federal Government will provide assistance to help meet the costs associated with training.
