Testimonials
Anirudh Goel
International travel consultant , Student Flights, Melbourne
Course: Angliss Travel - Certificate III in Tourism (Retail Travel Sales)
Anirudh Goel describes his first job after graduating from Angliss Travel as "exactly what I wanted" and says that he couldn't have asked for a better company to start off with.
Anirudh works as an international travel consultant at a busy Student Flight Centre office in Swanston Street Melbourne. His role involves selling everything from flights to tours, visas and accommodation. "Anywhere in the world people want to go, we do it for them," he says.
"It's a very busy job and every day I'm learning new things, not just from my own experience, but from customers I talk to."
Landing the job at Student Flight Centre meant excelling in a gruelling interview which lasted more than two hours. Coaching from Angliss Travel staff gave him confidence and good preparation. Anirudh says the support and industry knowledge of his teachers at Angliss Travel really helped him secure and cope in his current role.
Practical skills such as understanding all three booking systems used in the industry and understanding the realities of working in the highly competitive world of travel also gave him an edge.
"The teachers didn't just teach us the course content," he says. "They were also telling us how the industry operates, how we should react when we go for job interviews, how we should sell things, and how we should approach customers."
Tatiana Lazzaro
Reservations agent, Jetstar
Course: Angliss Travel - Certificate III in Tourism (Retail Travel Sales)
Tatiana currently works for discount airline Jetstar in a busy city call centre making bookings for domestic travellers keen to see their country. She completed the Certificate III in Tourism (Retail Travel Sales) with Angliss Travel, which secured her the job. Tatiana then decided she wanted to further her studies in tourism, and is currently continuing with an Advanced Diploma of Tourism Management at William Angliss Institute while she works part time for Jetstar. "Jetstar is a foot in the door to get where I want to be," she says. "But it's good for me because of the hours - they're really flexible and I'm still at TAFE."
She says she loves her colleagues and the chance to experience and learn about some truly amazing places. But she sees her current role as a stepping stone to a job at an airport - possibly in check-in or as a flight attendant. Ultimately she aims to work overseas in a role such as air hostessing.
Tatiana says the biggest challenge of her current role is to reach strictly monitored sales targets. "Every shift you have to think about making your sales," she says.
Tatiana believes studying at Angliss Travel helped differentiate her from other candidates applying for her job. She rates travelling to New Zealand, studying geography and learning more about a huge range of countries and cultures as the highlights of her first course.
Caitlyn Price
Currently employed at: Concorde
Course: Angliss Travel - William Angliss Institute: Certificate III in Tourism (Retail Travel Sales)
I began studying full time with Angliss Travel, but was offered a position half way through my course, so reverted to part time to complete it. My time at William Angliss Institute was exciting. I learnt an awful lot, and met lots of great people.
I currently work at Concorde, which is a wholesale travel company.
In the future I would like to have a go at the retail side of the Tourism industry and of course do some more traveling myself.
